Note to self: Chuck premiere Sunday at 9, show resumes normal broadcasting Monday at 8. Also, Fringe is now on Mondays at 9, which means I won't be watching Heroes as it airs any more. Unless I somehow acquire a time-turner, in which case I'd be watching Big Bang Theory, anyway... Damn, Monday nights are super TV-busy now!

Whatever I did yesterday that let me fall asleep at midnight, I have to figure out. Because it's not hard to say I'd rather be asleep when I'm awake. Raaaahh. :/

So one thing I figured out while watching all this Chuck is that I am powerless against Zachary Levi's smile.

It's just so shiny and happy! also I could climb that man like a tree, but that's got nothing to do with smiles

I'm only up to episode 7, so I'm going to have to seriously step up this marathon if I'm going to finish before the season 3 premiere. Luckily for me, I am a total loser with nothing else to do besides occasionally break to make dinner for the family (tomorrow: enchiladas!), so I will have plenty of time to do this before hoshit my classes start on Sunday.

Ho. Shit. My classes start on Sunday and I don't even know what books I need because the goddamn bookstore is still only showing the intersession texts and this is SERIOUSLY going to cramp my style, I need those books if I'm going to have any hope of not falling irretrievably behind in the first three weeks. I don't want to fail! I have done enough failing of college courses to last me a lifetime, literally, no more of that please.

...maybe just one more episode and then sleep.

Being Human, Season 2 Episode 1

  • Jan. 7th, 2010 at 11:54 PM
Some of you will be aware that the second season of Being Human starts shortly, and that the BBC were screening the first episode in the Curzon Mayfair tonight.

Julia and I were there.

Before we left the house we studied the live departure boards at southwesttrains.co.uk and they seemed to imply that a nearly-normal service was running, so we walked 15 minutes through the snow and ice to the station. However it transpired that since only one train via Bracknell was doing the Reading-Waterloo run (down from a more usual seven or so), six out of seven London-bound departures were cancelled. So we walked 15 minutes through the snow and ice back home.

Since we had heard that the tube really was running normally, Julia drove us both to Hillingdon tube station's deserted carpark, where we had snow for the first 80 yards and the last 130 yards, but were otherwise on clear roads, and we went into London by tube from there.

Before the show people were wandering around the aisles in character, lots of fun. And then the show itself came on, and it was excellent. No spoilers here, but do be sure to watch it. And there were posters for the show dotted around and I've grabbed a half-dozen to pass on to the LFF for auctions and similar activities.

And then we came home. Trouble-free tube as before. Snow in the car park and in my own road but nothing in between, as before. And when we got home the radiators were warm and we made toast.

Hurrah!

So far I am doing pretty well with this three things a day resolution. Yesterday I cooked, read, and wrote. Today I am making dinner again, I read for an hour in the tub and I did thirty minutes with the Wii. I am hoping that if I stick with this, I will eventually feel like my days aren't wasted.

I spent $70 on The Body Shop stuff online... The sales were really good, okay? I'm going to have enough body butter to last a lifetime pretty soon. xD I need to be less of a sucker for nice-smelling things.

No mall today after all, probably for the best. I have to get back to watching Chuck once dinner is done, and mallgoing is just a distraction from the important pursuit of television consumption.

The only thing worse than waking up from a dream about falling in love is having that dream end in apocalyptic fire and destruction first. :(

To add insult to injury, I woke up at 8 am. Which is, I guess, a logical thing to happen when I went to bed at midnight, but still: 8 is too early! So I rolled over and tried to get the happy part of my dream back, only slightly successfully.

I would really like to do some falling in love outside of my own subconscious, one of these days.

Today is Thursday! That means, possibly, going to Syracuse and finding out how the Aerie A-List promotion is going to work this year. And if that happens, I can go to The Body Shop and see if the awesome sale on the website is only online or also in the store... which I really shouldn't bother doing because I have a full shopping cart and free shipping, so I should just check out, but I really like going into the physical store and sniffing things. xD

I just finished downloading S2 of Chuck. I am going to go Wii Fit, and then I am going to watch a few episodes, because it would be cool to be all caught up by Monday, and also I kind of adore Zachary Levi.

I suck at LJ.

Today I got new memory foam slippers and a 96-pack of Crayola crayons.

And I'm absurdly excited about Being Human. Second series starts Sunday. Oh fuck yeah.

Day 6: My biggest pet peeve

The one thing that annoys me most is when my sisters are blatantly and unrepentantly disrespectful to my parents. Even if they don't like how my parents do things, they should shut up and be grateful that they get almost everything they ask for, they've never been abused, they will always be loved even when they're dipshits.

Watched Heroes with Mom just now. Not quite sure how I feel about where it's going... but it's always nice to see Zachary Quinto minus a shirt. :D
I am a little giddy because it just occurred to me that some of the weird, uneven Jack!characterization in S2 is actually very helpful for the story I want to tell! I would have punched the air, but I'm very tired and I can't find my chapstick.

(That bit about the chapstick wasn't relevent to why I didn't punch the air, it is just something else that is bothering me.)

***

So, for those of you following the saga of my car, my parents decided to bite the bullet and call the insurance company. They were leery of doing this at first because my parents, Boy Child, and I are all on the same insurance policy and we've all had other accidents in the past five years. We are lucky enough to be covered by what is arguably the best insurance group in NJ, so this was to be avoided.

Anyway, they called anyway and now I just have to pay the ~$500 deductible and my car will be fixed! Yay!

In celebration, I treated myself to some presents from The Bookstore. And by "some presents" I mean "No, really, I spent less than $5, I am pretty lame."

First off, there was this:

Have you ever met anyone in the world who needs that on a t-shirt more than me? (If you have DON'T TELL ME.) That is basically my life's philosophy. I am stenciling that shit on a t-shirt as soon as I have time to get to the craft store.

Next was this:

"But Kaitlyn," you're thinking, "don't you VASTLY prefer the original Ian Falconer books over the teevee show?"

"Yes!" I would reply, "but it was totally worth the $3 I paid for it solely for THIS! )

So, anyway, that happened. AND IT WAS AWESOME.

I am so excited about sleeping on Saturday, you guys. You don't even know.
I did not realize that my Sunday classes only ran through March. Holy shit, I am going to be doing so much NOTHING by the end of the semester... provided I survive two accelerated courses which I'm going to be missing at least once, but there's no way I'm backing out of going to Schenectady even knowing that now.

I am no longer going to use the word "ganked" in reference to memes, because according to the Winchesters, to gank something is to kill it, and though some memes are like beating dead horses, I prefer mine to be a little more lively.

Hence, this is taken but not ganked from [info]tiptoe39. xD

There's a new Symphony of Science video out today!

It's called "The Unbroken Thread" and it's about life and it's really really cool, so watch it and be all "oooh, science!" because science is awesome.

I got everything done outside of the house that I needed to do, AND I'm almost done burning all of Criminal Minds for my parents' friend. Well, I finished burning the DVD copies, now I'm just using DVDs for data files so she can have season 4, and I am not even trying to get her season 5; she has TiVo so there's no excuse for her not to have them herself. xD

Once I finish those for Shari, I get to start on another bout of ripping for my brother. He left a stack of shows and movies he wants... and I get the extra DVDs when I'm done, so I'm not complaining too loudly. It takes a long time to rip one season of a show though!

My cleaning plan for later is the second shelf from the floor of my bookshelf, which has become overrun with scarves, stuffed animals, and books that aren't in their proper places. One shelf at a time is about all I can cope with. xD

The way scientific research works

So apparently (this is not really a surprise) many discoveries arise while the scientists involved are actually working on something quite different.

Snow, Dentist, Plumber

  • Jan. 6th, 2010 at 9:14 AM
Bah, not half as much snow as we were promised. Hmph.

Last night I went shopping, to buy one loaf of bread, one pint of milk, a small handful of assorted vegetables and a bit of fish.
As a result of panic buying by morons, they had no bread, no milk, and two vegetables (a half a swede and a small butternut squash). Barrowmen *shakes fist* Grrr! No problem with the fish, though. So I bought the vegetables and a bit of fish, and then marvelled at the checkout queues.

The plan today was that I would go and see the dentist, and then the plumber would come and see me.

The dentist just phoned to cancel, I fully expect the plumber to do the same later. In only about five inches of snow. Hmph, as I said earlier.

oh my god, josh, you suck at life!

  • Jan. 6th, 2010 at 12:39 AM
Okay, so. [info]krabapple just sent me The Best Text Message Ever. I was looking for my last Best Text Message Ever, which she also sent me, and ended up re-reading the entry I posted it in. The entry is about Oregon Trail, and how Josh is the crappiest wagon leader ever who kills everyone and never makes it to Oregon.

"It's been almost a year!" I thought to myself. "Maybe Josh is a better wagon leader now! Maybe he has learned from his mistakes!"

THIS IS A FALSE ASSUMPTION, INTERNET. JOSH IS ASS AT LEADING A WAGON.

I did not even make it to "disk two" this time! CJ died of Typhoid, Donna and Sam drowned, and then Josh died of dysentery. Like, one right after the other!

The moral of this story is, don't ever let Josh Lyman take you to Oregon.

The new Best. Text message. Ever. is:

Day 5: My favorite quote

"Life is hard-- but tasty."
-Frida Kahlo

One of the few things I really took away from my therapist in Plattsburgh is this quote. I feel like I should pick something longer or more personally meaningful, but if it wasn't this then I would have quoted Eliot, and no one wants that to happen.

I'm going to do something I only very rarely do and recommend a fan soundtrack. Jugulate is an Inglourious Basterds FST, about Fredrick Zoller falling in love and Shosanna decidedly not doing that. Every single song in this is solid gold. If you liked the movie, get this soundtrack. If you didn't like the movie, get it anyway. If you never even saw the movie, get it anyway, okay, I am not joking when I say I completely freaking love this.

Tomorrow I am not sure whether I will be getting things outside of the house done, because the weather is supposed to be totally crappy. I have to pick up my scrips, deposit a couple of checks, mail a couple of DVDs, hopefully get into Camillus and see about a new pair of glasses (which I don't need, but it would be nice to get them), and... nope, everything else is inside the house, that's good. :D

I am thinking about jacking [info]tiptoe39's excellent New Year's resolution. Hers was to do three things out of a list of four things every day. I think I'll be a little easier on myself and go three out of five: writing, cleaning, cooking, exercising, and reading (either for school or out of a book, fanfic doesn't count). I could probably keep up with that... even if I only managed two today. Um.
I'm putting away my clothes now and I have just made an important discovery:

There is no room left in my panty drawer.

My addiction to Aerie underwear has become so excessive that I couldn't fit a thong in there if I even wore such a thing. It's those damn 5 for $25 sales, and the fact that they just keep making the cutest prints...

Oh well. I am imposing a moratorium on panty shopping from now on. Unless I suddenly lose so much weight that I drop down to a medium, I have enough panties to last me... probably two months of a different pair daily.

....hey, I could stop doing laundry for a while!
